Abstract

In a proportion of patients undergoing cancer treatment, traditional medicines have limited or no effect on symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and pain. Considering the pharmacological properties of Cannabis, this study aims to understand the therapeutic potential in treatment of these patients. The present research is a review of bibliographies using the indexes “Cannabis” “cancer” “treatment”. The results pointed out by the analyzed articles suggest that the use of Cannabis is a promising approach due to its bioactive characteristics that act on different tissues of the human body, being useful for the management of symptoms in the context of cancer, such as nausea and vomiting, pain, anorexia, gastrointestinal discomfort, sleep disorders, fatigue, anxiety and depression. It can be concluded that there are more and more arguments supporting the use of Cannabis, but more randomized controlled studies are needed to confirm or redefine its role in the treatment of people with cancer, specifying the ideal Cannabis derivative for the treatment, the dose and delivery system.
