Abstract

Frogs of the genus Pseudopaludicola are characterized by a relatively small size and similarities between species. Faced with errors in taxonomy due to comparative morphological analysis, molecular techniques have enabled the identification and phylogenetic analysis of the genus. A survey was conducted by reviewing scientific articles, aiming to identify state-of-the-art molecular studies on Pseudopaludicola species, as well as the taxonomic changes that have occurred in the genus. Using keywords for the selection of articles, the review showed that, based on molecular analyses, species of this genus that were earlier misidentified and/or had incorrect synonyms, in addition to being heterogeneous regarding the genes used in molecular phylogeny, were reevaluated.
