Abstract

Objective: To map the evidence in the literature on health literacy strategies with a focus on patient safety for nursing staff in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Methodology: This is a scoping review based on the elements identified in the Population, Concept and Context (PCC). The inclusion criteria were defined by participants, concept and context. As for the type of study to be considered for this review, they were original articles and gray literature. The search strategy was carried out in the PubMed, SCOPUS, CINAHL, Web of Sciences, EMBASE, Catálogo de Teses & Dissertações - CAPES and RCAAP - Repositórios Científicos de Acesso Aberto de Portugal databases. The articles identified were exported to the Qatar Computing Research Institute - Rayyan QCRI Platform and the results of the selection were presented according to the recommendations of the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews. Results: The initial mapping obtained 4,092 identified records. The application of the eligibility criteria resulted in 45 studies for reading the full texts, and a total of 20 articles were selected for final analysis. Conclusion: The mapping carried out through this scoping review presents possibilities for incorporating health literacy into practice as a model for training nursing teams in high-risk and complex environments.
