Entendimento das principais recomendações nutricionais para doença renal crônica na terapia renal substitutiva por pacientes em tratamento de hemodiálise
Abstract
Hemodialysis results in abrupt changes in the lifestyle that can compromise the patient's nutritional status. The objective of the study was to evaluate patients' understanding of the main nutritional recommendations regarding treatment. This is a cross-sectional study carried out with patients undergoing hemodialysis using a questionnaire. Sixty-eight patients with an average age of 59.9 years participated. The association between low education and knowing how to judge whether nutrients and/or foods are good or bad was evident. Associations were found between education and misunderstanding of the benefits or harms of fiber (y = -2.2788; p = 0.003), sodium (y = -2.4124; p = 0.011). The majority (n = 46) stated that they know how to reduce the potassium content of foods, however, they are unaware of the correct technique for this process. It’s concluded that low education is an aggravating factor for the lack of knowledge about the benefits or harms of nutrients and/or foods in the relationship, both in relation to consumption and preparation.
