Abstract

Issues involving the Environment are increasingly in the spotlight due to the major environmental disasters that have occurred over the years in Brazil and in various places around the world. Therefore, the objective of the work was to approach soils for elementary school students from public schools in the city of Areia-PB, as an alternative for teaching and learning environmental education, through alternative pedagogical practices. The project was carried out at the Álvaro Machado State School of Elementary and Secondary Education, located in the municipality of Areia-PB. The research had an exploratory, descriptive nature, with a qualitative approach. For the research, a questionnaire was created with 13 questions, distributed in the classes in two stages, in which the questionnaire was administered, and in the second stage, practice was assigned through workshops. Environmental education with an emphasis on soils needs to be included in teaching materials with greater relevance. Through the practices, it was observed an awakening of creativity and the total interest of the students, associating the activities with their daily lives. The workshops encouraged students to create conservationist thoughts to preserve the soil.
