Abstract

ABSTRACT

 

Objective: To analyze the evidence available in the literature on the role of pharmacists in sports with high-performance athletes. Method: This is an integrative review, based on data collection in PubMed, SCOPUS, and Virtual Health Library (BVS-BIREME) databases, by crossing the terms “pharmacists”; “evidence-based pharmacy practice”; "Sports"; “athletic performance” and “doping in sports”, surveys in the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). The Boolean operators “AND” and “OR” were used. Results: In the initial search, 806 articles were found. Forty articles for analysis of manuscripts, 40 articles for study and study, after 07 were included, considering only the inclusion of inclusion and exclusion. According to the items addressed in the research, the presentation of the pharmacist's performance in the area is limited by barriers of knowledge, lack of confidence to carry out advising athletes and by education, and observation of the experiences of leaving the performance of this professional in sports competitions presenting good results. Perspectives for clinical practice in this area. Conclusion: There is a need for specialized education so that pharmacists can work in the area, including in antidoping activities.
